Thank You everyone who has left such nice thoughts and comments about the loss of my little girl dog, Isabella.  I so thankful for a site that allows us to create memorials to the ones we love and converse with others who are experiencing the same pain.

Thanks again

After reading the other posts their is little I can add to express how we feel.  All of our animals have found us rather than us seeking them.  In some way they were in need of a home.  We have been blessed to have shared their lives and hold fond all their memories.

It's only been 2 1/2 months and it is still so hard, some days are better than others but like today everything makes me cry, i saw another pom today when i brought tinker to the vet-looked just like rosey, i just wanted to pick it up and kiss it.....It's still hard for me to believe she's gone. She was my child to me, since i have none, they say time helps, i guess it will be along time then.

So the quiet house is quiet no more....last night on Sheeba's 6mth angelversary and Coqui's 3 week angelversary we added the newest member to our family.  We adopted an 8 week old female mix from the local animal league.  Spirits here again are lifted although I did go into tears during the adoption process when they asked me about Sheeba.  Our newest addition "Kona" brought the smiles back into our house (as well as the sleepless nights).  I will be sure to post pictures soon!!

And I must say a house without a pet is not a home.  Something was missing in my life until yesterday!!

I thank God for Critters.com and the ability to create a memorial for the doggie love of my life - Nestle...  Nestle has been gone now just under two weeks.  I dont know what i would have done if it werent for this site and being able to share my thoughts and get the support of others.  Although reading through the memorials has brought many tears to my eyes, it has also brought a sense of peace in some ways.  It is wonderful to see so much love and compassion in the world for our beautiful furry friends.

My husband and i had to make the heart renching decision to put Nestle to sleep because of Mass Cell Tumors.  Even though the vet said there was nothing that could be done and that the cancer had spread to her liver, the aftermath of that decision is so hard to deal with.  My range of emotions has run the gammet; guilt, anger, depression, deep sadness.  I am trying to get through the pain so that i can look back on all the wonderful memories i have of Nestle.  But right now all i can do when i think of her is cry.   Some dear friends of ours have told us that the pain we are feeling is in direct correlation with the love that we have for Nestle.  Oh how we miss her beautiful little doggie face.  It is so hard to think of her not here with us in this house.  She was 14 years old and i know that we are very fortunate to have had such a wonderful time together.   But she could have been 114 years old and it wouldnt have been long enough.

Thank you to all that have given us their support.  Strangers, friends, family.  This is a wonderful communtiy of people brought together simply because of their deep compassion and love of their animals.

Wishing you all peace and love.

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know I stand corrected on my last post regarding Innova having garlic as one of it's ingrediants. Denise send me a message letting me know this. Apparantly, since I last used the product two years ago, the company has taken the garlic out of its product. I was happy to hear this because of my personal experience with the danger of garlic.

01-23-2010 12:49 PM -- By: Sherri,    Critters.com memorial:   MADDIE Memorial
Cornelia,

Thanks SO much for your input. I too, had to stop using Innova for new pup, Mandy. I never used it for Maddie, actually, Maddie had been on some really bad foods,(one a perscrip. food from the vet), but I did NOT know  how bad they were, at the time, of course, and in the end, ALL she was able to tolerate due to allergy and immune disorders,(like little Annie), was WHITE rice, baby chicken, and sometimes a little mooshed green peas and a dab of peanut butter, and VERY little of ANY of it. My bad experience  with Innova puppy food was with Mandy,(but this was because I was using it on a pup who is between toy and small size,a small Cavichon), I began the Innova to get her off of the Royal Canin/Science diet, puppy forms (which I was told to mix when I first got her at about eleven weeks old) I mixed  the new,(Innova) in a little at a time and when she was on the product,(Innova puppy) full strength, we started having probs. Terrible sulpher smelling burps,(rotting egg smell), and HUGE, messy stools. I thought she had a blockage because of the stinky burps, but the huge, messy stool said otherwise. A person of knowledge in the pet store asked me to try Calif. Naturals, puppy formula in basic Chicken/rice,(said it was better for smaller pups and had NO garlic!) After WHAT I went through with Maddie for more than two years, I did NOT want anything controversial,(as Garlic IS, for dogs) I took the advice and it has been smooth sailing, so far...I also add a tiny bit of brown rice, sometimes, and I use the food processor to do some green beans and often add a tablespoon or so of baby sweet pot. to her meal, as I do Lizzie, AND the Apple cider vinager, of course, just a capfull on the meal. Lizzie,(Cavilier King Charles), ALSO gets flax seed oil on her meal, to help with the coat &shedding. Lizzie is on Wellness simple formula duck/rice. We use Wellness well bars,(veggie formula) and Wellness turkey jerkey as a SPECIAL treat, and ZOOKS hip action treats and mini treats, as well. Mandy still gets Mother Hubbard puppy bones and Bits for training and I am trying to find out IF anyone has had a bad experience with them. Anyone?

Also, Henry, about the lump after a shot? Cornelia told me a while back about nearly the same thing with one of her Malts.....I had a bit of a diff. experience. Maddie had her ENTIRE face swell up after a 3 yr. Rabies shot. We HAD to go back to the one year with her. Also, our little boy malt, Scruffy, barely 3 yrs old, had been under the weather, but he got his shots, anyway,(I will never forgive myself) and he had a reaction.  Well he died....

Some of this,(AND some diff. things) is posted on our NEW health & wellness page, as well . These pages should get ironed out before long, so keep checking BOTH pages, and remember you can post a question on the NEW page or answer a question,  2 ways to do this : 1.) post an answer on the NEW page or 2.) for an answer to an urgent question, avoiding review, post directly in the persons guest book OR even better? IF you have the time, do both!  So the person looking for an answer will get the benifit of a quick answer AND all of us here at Critters will be able to see your advice! General info. is great, too, anything you have learned from PAST OR CURRENT pets... we are ALL ears,(or shall I say eyes?)

Sherri

Rescue Remedy is a calming anxiety stress reducing holistic remedy (made from flowers) initially a product for humans, but also used for pets. However, recently they have come out with Rescue Remedy for Pets. You will find out lots of info online and the dosage they would recommend for your furkids. For my  one little guy who gets more anxious during car and plane trips I put a couple of drops under his tongue.

Just a note on the Innova product, which is a good premium dog food. I had my little Annie on it. Innova does have garlic in it. If any of you have pets with any sign of anemia, I would not use this product as garlic contributes to making the anemia worse. I don't really understand why manufactures put garlic into their dog food as the vet in the emergency hospital who treated my maltese said garlic causes anemia in dogs as do onions. The pet food industry and even holistic vets say in small amounts garlic is beneficial. I am at a loss as to understand what the facts really are. However, since two of my maltese developed autoimmune hemolytic anemia, I will not feed my dogs any food with garlic in it .

Great catch Karen! The maker of innova is Natura who has all the foods listed below and something for every budget without sacrificing quality. I remembered to tell Sammy's Daddy Charles about the website but forgot to mention it here. I have a daughter who feeds raw meat and that's what her Giant snauzer champion breeder feeds and that's not for me but they have something that would fit the needs of a parent that would like to go that route. Nice seeing you karen and i remember that yard sale sign to you...very special!

Thanks Karen, Simons mom.

I guess there is some confussion on WHICH page to post all the health & well-being issues, This is in part because Henry & I introduced (and discussed) the opening of the NEW PAGE on THE MAIN FORUM. I contacted Sharon to ask IF we could add HEALTH & WELL BEING  to the title of the NEW page, 'SHARING AND ENJOYING OUR CURRENT PETS'.

Thanks so much for the info. on food,Karen. I too, have begun to use Innova-I am using the Calif. Naturals line, in chicken puppy formula, for my 8 mos. old Cavachon, Mandy. Lizzie, my 8+ yr. old Cavilier, King Charles is on Welness, 2 ingred., duck & rice formula due to grain & some protein sensitivity. I use WELLNESS well bars,(Veggie) & TURKEY JERKEY, as  an xtra for BOTH girls and ALSO ZOOKS-mini's & also Hip action. Mandy STILL gets MOTHER HUBBARD puppy bones, as well,(NOT LIZZIE) ANYone know anything about them?,(MOTHER HUBBARD) and IF they are ok or not? I would guess that I should get her off them, ANYONE know?

I will ALSO post most of this on the NEW page, as well......

Thanks, once again, Karen, Simons mommy.

I would just like to give a thumbs up to the Innova pet food that Denise mentioned below, it's awesome. They have several different lines and it's ALL good healthy stuff. I use the California Naturals line, it has limited ingredients so it's great for allergies & sensitive tummies. They also have a EVO line that's grain free.

Sherri, try a few 30 min trips. Simon always got car sick as a puppy but seemed to grow out of it after he got about a year old. The motion sickness meds from the vet are a great option too...

Sorry I don't get by as much as I would like anymore but my Critter's family is always in my thoughts. Love to you all!

Hugs, Karen

01-19-2010 8:38 PM -- By: cornelia,    Critters.com memorial:   O Little Annie Cotton Candy Memorial
Sherri, I too follow the empty tummy rule when traveling with my maltese. I also have them in their sherpa travel bags. When they see their bags come out of the closet they all get excited and come running to climb in because they know they get to go on a trip! Of course it did take time and effort to  acclimate each of them to their travel bag/car rides . I used pieces of chicken breast treats for the travel bag (kept the bag in the living area for them to go in and out at will) and made short car trips at the beginning (on an empty tummy). Also, I have used rescue remedy to ease anxiety. So my advise is to use a travel bag/crate, empty tummy, and the rescue remedy which is actually for humans and can be bought in any health food store. hope this helps.

Hi Everyone, I want to thank everyone who came to visit my little boy, Davinci's page yesterday, sending him so many beautiful , and fun, Birthday wishes.  He would have appreciated it so, and I do as well. I cannot believe DavInci, would have been 6 yesterday. My body felt sort of heavy w/ thoughts of him, the little young boy who should be here, but isn't. My memories are so clear, as the day, of him being by my side, snuggling, and running around the back yard as I watched on, the way he loved to play w/ his brothers, as the wind blew back his ears, his adoring ways that made me smile. I miss him, I think about him all of the time, how it would be id DaVinci were still here. He should still be here, but God decided to take him home, to the Bridge, where he would meet all of these new and wonderful friends and the older one's, of coarse, also.I am so glad, and my heart feels so good, knowing that I have made so many good friends at Critters. I am so honored I found this place where i have had so much support and love, beautiful poems and versus,  beautiful people who have helped me through, it's something that has made my life  so much happier, and I just want to thank all of you for being there for us, and helping us through these past few years. I felt like my heart was crushed when this happened, I even went to a therapist, but found being on critters was actually a lot more therapeutic in so many ways.God Bless all of you, each and every one, and i thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there for us. As we have become friends, I know that our fur babies have also become very good friends and watch out for us, they are near us, more than we think. I love all of you, and thank you

xoxoxoxox all my love

Natalie , DaVinci , Micky and Bear!!- Bear's 1 year angel day is coming up in a few days, its going to be a difficult day for us, but as always, we will get through it. xoxoxo

Hi Everyone!

First of all i love my critter's family! I have always followed the empty tummy rule for car travel and i think for the large dogs the harness for the back seat belts are great because it keeps them still instead of them walking back and forth which makes less motion in the car. I think the crate covered is a great ideal but your vet can perscribe motion sickness tables if necessary. We use the Carlson's fish oil from Norway which is for people but my friends human doctor uses it for his dog and you need to use it for a dogs weight which i researched and ran it by my vet b4 buying and this has been purified. We use the pfizer vet tab vitamins thru our vet although a book called"the nature of animal healing" by a vet has other sources for vitimins and teaches and explains about the dog foods and water that our babies take in. It has relieved some of the guilt i had for Caliya which i am now using for her brother Cyrus because i trusted that i WAS buying the best dog food. Eyes wide open now. Innova is just great and they carrie a whole line of foods suited for your babies. Allergies can cause the coughing from drainage and we took up all our carpets(after vet exam) and we never had anymore ear infections again. We are going holistic with acupunture which is excellent.Caliya never went without anything she needed but i just never realized the outside influences in her health but my human children drank the same water and we eat foods that we are suppose to trust..information and education have been invaluble for my remaining baby boy,

Denise Caliya's Mama
