I just got this today and loved it...thought it may help others:: Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God, Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her. Love, Meredith.

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, "To Meredith" in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, "When a Pet Dies." Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith, Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays In your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I am wherever there is love. Love, God

Whenever Thanksgiving rolls around, I remember how much Sheba LOVED turkey and couldn't wait to get at it. I also remember how much God blessed me by letting me have my angel queen for nineteen years. This holiday will be very difficult for a lot of us, but I pray God's blessings on all the critters' moms and dads. I'm thankful for all of Sheba's Rainbow Bridge friends and all their parents who have been good friends and such a support system to me. God bless you all. I love you!

The messages keep pouring in. Words can't express how much they've helped me cope with the unbearable pain I feel. Thanks to everyone who have offered their condolences. The sweet descriptions of my baby have given me great comfort. I feel her presence everywhere and the pain is so great. I want to nuzzle and touch her so bad. I'm hearing her sounds in the house, and I feel she is there. I know that I have to go through these feelings to get to the other side, but it is so difficult. Once again, my deepest appreciation to all who have offered their encouragement.

I just want to thank everyone who has signed Bailey's guestbook. It really helps to know that someone cares and understands how I am feeling. It is three months tomorrow that we lost him, and his birthday is coming up next month. It will very hard to get through these days and the holidays but I feel like this site somehow eases some of the pain and keeps his memory alive. Thanks again everyone.

Cheri, Please, take your time....whenever you are ready to tell Coco's story you'll do it....it's hard to do it so soon after she left you. She's a very pretty girl, such a sweet face & those eyes that melt your heart. I'll check in again to see if you were able to add more to her page. In the mean time, take it easy, let it sink in & take your time grieving...you have to let it all out....I'm still not done "letting it all out"! It's a rough road, ALOT of ups & downs and eventually it will be more happy memories of all the years you had together...right now I don't think there is anything I could ever say to take away the pain you're feeling....I wish I could because I KNOW how BAD it hurts!

Notice to everyone. When my heart gets stronger I plan to add more pictures and stories to Coco's page so keep checking on her to learn more about her. Right now I just need a little time to get through the pain.

Jeannie I admire you for being able to do the things you used to do with your sweet Gypsy Rose. When I read your post I had this image of your baby looking down on you from above and giving her approval. Something tells me Gypsy Rose is making sure Mollie has some of her traits to help you through this sad time. Yesterday I was out at the park with Mkwaa and Yukon Jack and as they ran through the leaves on the ground and I heard that familiar crunch crunch of the beautiful leaves beneath their paws I remembered that sound from Nvwati as he ran through the leaves......... something so many dogs love doing. Yukon suddenly stopped turned and looked at me and I swear he smiled at me! I stopped and looked above and said "Thank you my precious Nvwati for bringing Yukon to us and for being here with us in spirit today." Im sure others around me thought I was nuts but ask if care? LOL. Bless you too Jeannie for your entries to Nvwatis guestbook. They are so appreciated. Hugs Amber

Cheri thank you for the kind entry into Nvwati's guestbook. All of us gathered here were brought to this site over the deaths of our beloved furbabies and we so know the pain you feel. We share your pain. I was so devestated when my baby died it felt like my heart would explode. A dear friend of mine sent me email telling me to let her and others help carry my pain so I didn't have to carry it all alone. Ironically that email helped me so KNOW that we carry a part of your pain as well. You can contact me off forum via email anytime you need support. Take care hon.
