Dear Charles, handsome Sammy, Gabby and little Bob M. Stopping by this very early morning with fresh hot coffee and a huge variety of home made cookies, cakes, etc. as Granny and Trina have been baking up a storm for the celebration this weekend. Granny's house looks and smells like a bake shop. HaHa.What would I ever do without them two? I have an early start this morning for a long and busy weekend BUT will enjoy every minute of it.

Have they gotten any of the fires under control yet? I saw a clip of the fires and smoke on TV last night. WOW! All them beautiful trees just burning down to the ground. So sad!

Take care and and please stay safe. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers and hope them fires are soon confined if not totally stopped.

I hope Cupcake is well on her way to a full recovery. What is it now,two more weeks to be crated. I can only imagine the happiness Xander will feel when Cupcake can run and play again as she will be happy to get back to normal as well.

Sending hugs and know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Lauvern and all at Luke's shelter.

Dearest Charles and Kiddos! My goodness, the fires! I looked the state up on a satellite map and it is terrible! The worst the state has had? And I saw smoke/breathing problems for Alb. and SF? I hope you are taking precautions by not leaving windows open. How are the dogs doing with this?

It has been nice here today. No snakes, not real hot and I'm getting ready for my grandchildren to come next week.

Take care and be careful about all that smoke. xoxox Pat and kids

Handsome Luke, thank you for helping Rocky celebrate his special day.  Big hugs to you and your dad.

Dear Charles, handsome Sammy, Gabby and little Bob M. Thank you so much for your visit and treats yesterday. Most of all Thank you for your kindness ALWAYS.

Well it has stopped raining here "at least for now" and there is a northren breeze. Hopeing it is sending the much needed rain to you all in NM. Maybe our fur angels will continue to do the rain dance and send it your way.

Take care and know that al of us here are keeping positive thoughts and hopeing that the clouds from here are moving towards NM and will bring you a few days of much needed rain.

Take care in them wild fires and smoke. I know you are no doubt keeping the kids indoors as the smoke must be hard on them as well.

Sending hugs as always.

Lauvern and all at Luke's shelter.

My Dearest Beloved Sammy .. I just wanted to leave you a little note to let you know that .. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH my son.  Each day, memories flood my mind of all the times we spent together.  It is YOU, my son, who truly saved me and I will LOVE YOU forever and when I leave this earth, it is YOU I want waiting for me to help me cross over that Rainbow Bridge.

I send all my love to you and Gabby and little Bob M too.  Each of you were special to me.  Always watch over me, Cupcake and Xander.

05-29-2012 10:44 PM -- By: Lauvern,  From:

Hi Charles, handsome Sammy, Gabby and little Bob M. Thank you for coffee and cookies this morning. Much appreciated! I am so sorry that you are having to deal with all that smoke again. I wish there was a way that I could send you some of our rain. Although we had a beautiful weekend, it has been raining here since Sunday afternoon and it doesn't look like it is going to let up soon. It is a nice rain "heavy at times"  which makes it good. Everything is well soaked around here for sure. I hope they soon get them fires under control. I hope Cupcake is well on her way to full recovery also.

Take care in that awful smoke. Sending Hugs as always.

Lauvern and all at Luke's shelter.

Dear Charles and family,

I am so sorry to learn of the fires and smoke. I guess you could not spend as much of your holiday weekend outside as you may have liked under the curcumstances. I do hope they are contained soon.

I hope Cupcake is doing well and is not too much of a handful (HA!) We spent much of our weekend outside. We have over 100 rhododendron bushes which we planted during the twenty years we have been here. Over 45 are in bloom now so it is lovely out. Our weekend was sunny but not too hot so we all had a great time.

You and your furbabies are never far from our thoughts and I wish you all a safe week.

05-28-2012 7:40 PM -- By: Bob,  From: Ct

Charles; I'm checking up on Cupcake, I hope she is recovering well. Wondering if you are effected by the fire or the smoke. Living here in Ct. I can't even guess what it must be like as we really don't have very much forest. The rest of my girls are doing fine, although Mary is 18 and she looks and acts very old but her health is very good. Once again get well soon Cupcake...

Just stopping to say, we all appreciate every time you visit, even though we don't always get around to getting back very soon. Hope all is well with you and the bullies. Just had Ginger's 2 year angelversary. Still get sad at times. Take care and stay in touch, Kent, Ginger, Coco, Cinnamon, Sugar, Mr. Runt, Ringo, Tigger, Pete, Smokey, Jax, Jasper and Miss Priddy

05-26-2012 5:56 PM -- By: pat,  From: oklahoma

Dear Charles: What is it about New Mexico and wildfires? It is lack of rain. I'll never forget that first Los Alamos fire! That was horrible and it's been one after the other. We had one at Pilar one time and I stayed up all night, several nights, to be sure it didn't jump the highway and burn the village. Too scary. You know what was interesting? Indian fire crews came from Oklahoma to help out! I baked cookies and cakes as fast as my oven could turn them out so everyone could have something sweet.

I hope Cupcake is doing great and will soon be running around the yard. Having a great dad  and brother sure helped her. How old are both dogs? Clem is 3 and I don't have any idea how old Lita is. Dom and Dinah just turned one and Dom is taller than Clem and she is half airedale and half german shepherd. Dinah has lab in her and she is short and squatty. :)

Take care and enjoy the weekend, Charles . xoxoxo from all of us, Pat

05-26-2012 12:24 AM -- By: pat,  From: oklahoma

Dear Charles and Sammy: It was great that you stopped in to wish Fayedy a happy birthday. I imagine that Sammy was the maitre de and served up some really fine filet mignons for the party. Henrietta is always working security and Tip seats the guest. Smut just runs around looking for butter to gulp down. J.J. plays the piano and Bob sings.

It was a Grrrrrt party!

I hope that Cupcake is doing well. I am so sorry that she has to be crated so long. And  when she gets out of her "prison", she will be running circles and Xander will get to play with her again.

Our weather is very hot and I refuse to turn the AC on due to the huge utility bill. I bought a new big fan and so far it is doing a good job. Speaking of good jobs, Lita and Dinah have found 5 copperhead snakes in my yard and we've killed 4 of them. One bit Clem and she was very sick for about 36 hours. The vet said there's nothing really to do and I kept her quiet and cool. The airedale in Clemmie took over and she jumped in and got too close to the snake's head.

Give Cupcake and Xander a big Oklahoma kiss from all of us. You don't have to lick her like the dogs would...just kiss her.

xoxoxo Pat and family

Good Friday Morning Charles, handsome Sammy, Gabby and little Bob M. Stopping by with fresh hot coffee and Granny's homemade cinnamon rolls to get our weekend off to a good start. I am happy to hear that sweet Cupcake had her stitches removed and is able to be out of her crate even though she must be leashed. I am sure she doesn't mind that at least she gets to walk around. I had to walk Toby daily as well after he had his surgery and his stitches out just to get his strenght back in his leg which he did very well.I know Cupcake will do the same.

We are off to the cabin this afternoon to get things setup for the summer as well as get my flowers planted and maybe get in some boating.Toby and Tyson are coming with us as usual. They love to go there and especially go on the boat.

Have a grand weekend as I am sure you will with the kids as well as helping Cupcake walk and heal real quick. Hang in there, the worse is over.

Sending hugs as always.

What a beautiful boy your son was and so loved and what a wonderful memorial.  Thank you so much for your touching message on my Nelly's page.  They touched out hearts deeply.  While I am heartbroken and struggle to get through, it is a comfort to know that she is at Rainbow's Bridge with so many other fur angels, like your beautiful Sammy.  Bless you

05-23-2012 4:43 PM -- By: Lauvern,  From:

Hi Charles, handsome Sammy, Gabby and little Bob M. Thank you much for coffee and lemon cake "Luke's favourite" smile. How he loved lemon cake! Anyway we have been getting rain here since Sunday which is a good thing as we had no snow to speak of over the winter. The lawns and trees and just all of the country side is looking alive and green now.The weather has been cooler which I truely appreciate as I get to spend the days outside with the fur kids instead of having to stay inside to keep cool.

I am happy to hear that you have heard from Jules. I miss her posting as I am sure you do as well. We will give her some time and then will just have to send the search and rescue team looking for her. HaHa.

I hope Cupcake gets her stitches out tomorrow as I know they must be annoying her now that she is healing. Let me know how she does tomorrow.

Sending hugs from here to there.

Lauvern and all at Luke's shelter.

Dear Charles and family,

After a number of days of sunshine the overcast as rainy weather has returned. The kids and I much prefer cooler weather to hot so it is good. I often think of you and hope Cupcake is well on the way to a full recovery.  I am sure she is almost bouncing off the walls and that both of you cannot wait for her to be able to run and play normally.  Kit got his stitches out but now has a limp. If he is not better soon I will take him back to see his friends at the vet's office.  Off to make some scrabled eggs for the kids, one of their favorites! Hugs to you all.

Hi Charles, handsome Sammy, Gabby and little Bob M. Sorry it took me awhile to reply but I finally got caught up with backed up mail. Thank you for coffee and pumpkin bread yesterday morning. mmmm! I love pumpkin bread. Thank you also for the compliment on Luke's BD page. I am still trying to find time to fix up his pages and get them in order as well as get my "Dream come through page" back up there. I think I'm going to have to get our dear friend Jules to help me out with a few things as being computer illiterate as I am, one never knows what may happen when I start moving pages around. Ha-Ha-Ha.

I have some exciting news which I will write to you about over the weekend.

I must get going to the shelter as I have classes this morning. I hope sweet Cupcake is doing better by the day.I know it's not easy keeping her confined. I am not sure if it is harder on her or on her Dad. I think both. Anyway hang in there ,the weeks are getting shorter and she will be back to running and playing with Xander ,who I bet can't wait to have her play with him again.

Have a grand weekend and Thank you again for your kind posts always.

Sending hugs from here to there.

Lauvern and all at Luke's shelter.

05-18-2012 10:36 PM -- By: Skye,  From:

Hi Charles:
I am so sorry to hear about Cupcake's surgery.  Poor baby.  I know how very difficult it is to keep pets confined and inactive after surgery too.  Reading your post brought back memories of our Ruby Jean having double hip surgery (with metal plates) when she was only a year old.  It was a nightmare trying to keep an extremely hyperactive, super alpha, terrier-mix calm, confined, and fairly still for several weeks.  I think it was as draining on her caretakers as it was on poor Ruby.  She, too, revolted against the cone, and so we found a type of soft cone with velcro that was much more comfortable and that she tolerated better.  Though, unfortunately over time she eventually developed a phobia of the velcro (of that ripping sound it makes), so then the cone no longer worked quite so well anymore.  Everything was a challenge with our Ruby irregardless!  :)   I do wish your precious girl a very speedy recovery and I wish you luck in caring for her over the next several weeks.  Hang in there -- I know it is tough to see our babies hurting.  Sending hugs to you, Cupcake, and Xander and wishing you the very best always.  Take Care.

Dear Charles, I see our post did show up! I sure thought I had used a "trigger" word. Glad it came on. I hurt my shoulder and arm again and am trying to favor it for a few days.

Kiss Cupcake and Xander for me! Give them a BIG hug also. xoxox Pat and crew

Hi Charles , handsome Sammy, Gabby and little Bob M. Thank you for visit, coffee and lemon cookies yesterday.Much appreciated!  I hope Cupcake is leaving her stitches alone now .These babies don't understand that it is for their own good . I hope she is still healing well and on her way to a total recovery, which I am sure she is.

Thank you for sharing the pics and quotes with me . Beautiful dogs and very true quotes!

Things are slowly getting back to normal here and the weather has been great. We need rain also but are suppose to get lots on Wednesday and Thursday which will certainly help keep the dust down as well as help keep the lawn and flowers doing well.

Take care and have a good day.

Sending hugs your way.

Dear Charles and Kids:

Thanks for your post. We got through Saturday. I posted here about the day you and Sammy found one another and I see it didn't get through. I KNOW what I said. Dog breed because my daughters had compliments for your rescues. DARN! I'll re-write it and "mail" it. xoxox Pat and kiddos

05-13-2012 10:50 PM -- By: pat,  From: oklahoma

Dear Charles and Kids: How are you and how is the weather in Santa Fe? Allergies here are killing us. The usual headaches, itchy eyes, etc.

How is Cupcake? I told my daughters about her surgery and they are both sending healing energy to her. Both girls are so impressed with your 'touch' with pit bulls. The apples didn't fall far from the tree.

Are you still sleeping on the floor with Cupcake? Is she mobile enough to sleep with you on the bed? She is so lucky to have you for her Dad.

Of all the stories about how we got our pets, yours and Sammy's is my favorite. When I come to Sammy's pages, I always have the mental image of you stopping and that passenger door opens and he runs and jumps in. "It doesn't get any better than that".

Take care, Charles.......Pat and the family
