One very cold night in January, we came home from my nieces wedding and Buddy was sick.  He kept coughing all night long and in the morning I called the vet.  It was Sunday but he was in the office checking on the sick animals and said I could bring him over but it would be and "emergency call".  We rushed him right over and as he was checking Buddy he said his heart murmur was a little worse and gave him a shot and said he should be okay.  We went home and he seemed ok for the next few days.  Then he started in with the coughing again so we brought him back.  His heart was much worse then it had been just a few days before.  He told us he'd still be ok but we needed to give him a few medicines everyday because of the fluid around his heart. I was so relieved! A few days after that I put Buddy out on his leash to go potty.  A few minutes later I went to check on him and he was laying down in front of the door.  I knew there was something wrong and my husband went outside and carried him into the house.  We wrapped him in his blanket and immediately drove to the vet office.  They took him right away and came out and said he'd had a stroke and would need to keep him there at least until the next day to monitor him.    The next morning I called them as soon as they were opened and was told he'd rested comfortably thru the night and we should come and visit him.  Poor Buddy.  Once we got there they realized he was blind from the stroke, but we were able to take him home.  Not being able to see didn't seem to bother him.  He  knew his way around the house and he still sat in his chair in front of the window. Sometimes he didn't know he was facing the back of the chair instead of looking outside.  He was so cute!  But he just kept on getting sick and I kept taking him back for shots and more medicines about every 3 days.  On the morning he died I'd been up all night with him.  My husband was working dayshift so he left for work very early and I took a shower and was going to get Buddy to the vet as soon as they opened.  When I went downstairs he was laying in the corner of the living room trying so hard to breath.  I called the vet and he said he'd meet me at his office by 8.  I carried him to the car and put him on his blanket next to me.  I drove the short distance to the vet office and was waiting for him to get there.  I called my mom on my cell and she was trying to calm me down.  We hung up because I'd seen the Dr. pull up in the back of the building and I was going to bring Buddy in.  He was having such a hard time breathing and out of nowhere he sat up and waved his little paw at me,  the way he did when he wanted to be petted.  Then he laid down and let out his last breath.  My poor little Buddy. I kissed his little head and told him he would always be my special boy.   My baby with the soulful eyes!

Looking For Space
John Denver

On the road of experience, I'm trying to find my own way.
Sometimes I wish that I could fly away
When I think that I'm moving, suddently things stand still
I'm afraid 'cause I think they always will

And I'm looking for space
And to find out who I am
And I'm looking to know and understand
It's a sweet, sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
And sometimes I'm deep in despair

All alone in the universe, sometimes that's how it seems
I get lost in the sadness and the screams
Then I look in the center, suddently everything's clear
I find myself in the sunshine and my dreams

And I'm looking for space
And to find out who I am
And I'm looking to know and understand
It's a sweet, sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
And sometimes I'm deep in despair

On the road of experience, join in the living day
if there's an answer, it's just that it's just that way

When you're looking for space
And to find out who you are
When you're looking to try and reach the stars
It's a sweet, sweet sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
But sometimes I'm deep in despair
Sometimes I fly like an eagle,
like an eagle
I go flying flying
