In loving memory of Skylar who was loved so much. Skylar will be greatly missed and be in our hearts forever.

Skylar was a magnificent black and silver German shepherd, weighing nearly 90 lbs. He was the most beautiful dog I've ever seen. He lived to be nine years and four months old, despite all the medical problems he endured during his lifetime. He became my fur-baby when he was only 8-1/2 weeks old. His seizures began when he was nearly two, and he has endured them for 7-1/2 years. When he was five years old, he developed cirrhosis of the liver and his prognosis was grim. However, with the help of the members of a canine epilepsy website, George and I were miraculously able to nurse him back to health. He lived another four years, outliving my husband and his two other fur-sisters, Juley & Brandy. He became the man of the house, looking after and protecting me with every opportunity he had. He was with me every step of the way as I began my new life as a widow and made new friends. My friends grew to love him too -- despite the fact that he often barked at them in order to protect me.

Skylar didn't seem to respond to the Valium when he had seizures last Tuesday night into Wednesday. I kept thinking I finally stopped them, but he had another two during the following day, and so my brother and I brought him to the hospital. Unfortunately, his prognosis wasn't good. The seizures had already affected his already developed neurological condition, Degenerative Myelopathy, which would have inevitably ended up paralyzing his left side after this final episode. I had to make the agonizing decision that very evening to let him go. Although he was really out of it, he grunted in acknowledgement when I came back into the room to let me know that he knew I was there. I held his head and kissed him good-bye, telling him to live with his Daddy now, and that I will love him forever, with my heart and soul. Skylar did become my heart and soul, and I am now torn apart.

I could honestly say that Skylar paid his dues during his life, and now he is being rewarded. He is now safe at home living with his Daddy and his three fur-sisters: Brandy, Juley & Christy. He is finally seizure free and can run and play again. I now have another "angel" looking over me.

My beautiful, wonderful Skylar went home to the Rainbow Bridge Wednesday evening at 7:30pm. I can't express in words the way I feel now. My heart and soul feel empty.
